Day 9: We gained nearly 2,000ft to reach Lobuche at 16,200ft. It was a nice, gradual hike in with great weather. We got to see more views of the big mountains as we continue to get closer to Everest Base Camp. These Himalayan mountains are enormous and magnificent.
One of the most interesting places we stopped along the way was the Sherpa and climber memorial for those who have died on Everest. Each memorial was different, but all were beautiful.
Unfortunately several other members of our team are getting sick so we are all trying to do our best to get/stay healthy.
Day 10: Today was another active rest day to acclimatize to our new elevation. We went for a short hike and were actually able to see Everest Base Camp from our high point today. All we could see were tiny yellow dots (the tents) at the bottom of the icefall, but it was visible. It will be nice to finally be done with packing and unpacking every day. We are all getting excited but still have to remember that this is not a sprint – it’s a marathon.
Next stop: Everest Base Camp!
Breathtaking pics of the mountains. Kinda scary to see the memorial but I have confidence in your journey. Can’t wait to hear about basecamp and the next big steps ❤️.
a great expedition only for a few persons, congeatulesions
Thanks for your update Geneva! Pics are incredible and I’m sure they cannot express the feeling of seeing these mountains in real time. From the GPS track it looks like you’re finally at basecamp. Woohoo!! I hope your team is able to get/stay healthy!! Godspeed!
